Brucella Agar Formulation (BAF) is intended for the cultivation, isolation, quantitation and partial identification of obligate anaerobic bacteria. This medium will also support the growth of aerobic and microaerophilic bacteria if incubated appropriately. BAF is an enriched non-selective medium. The basic nutritive properties consist of caesin peptones, dextrose, and yeast extract. BAF can be supplemented aseptically with various growth factors and additives once the media has been autoclaved. Further supplementation with vitamin K₁, hemin and whole sheep blood facilitates the recovery of the more fastidious organisms. Additional supplementation with antibiotics will make the media selective.
